Ensemble-Based Improv Filmmaking
Service Description
4 TUESDAYS 7pm-10pm WAS $200 Now $160 @ Impro Studio 1727 N. Vermont Av 90027 Oct 20th - Nov 10th In this class we explore a way of creating work that puts improv at the forefront of the filmmaking process. Rather than taking a story or screenplay and spicing it up with some improv, we will use improv as the foundational element to generate the story. Building on the work of Viola Spolin, Keith Johnstone and Del Close, among others, this class explores how ensemble-based improv play can connect with the skillset of filmmaking — bringing not just video capture, but all the tools of editing and post-production into the process. Over the course of four weeks we’ll experiment with and refine an ensemble process that creates stories that not only surprise and delight, but have the potential to live on as films. Mining for Gold: the fun of ensemble-based improv filmmaking. INSTRUCTORS: John Sylvain is an actor, writer, director and producer who has been making it up as he goes along since he was born.
