About the event

Impro Theatre focuses on ensemble narrative storytelling. Most shows tend to flow like a one hour theatrical play rather than a series of games or multi-part format. Some shows may be a series of short stories or have a specific structure but all require players to focus on playing as part of an ensemble rather than as an individual.

It will be a low-pressure group audition, similar to an improv jam. The directors will take participants through a series of exercises highlighting cooperative scene-building, creating characters, establishing relationships, discovering the story together, and exploring genre.

Wear comfortable clothing. Bring water, perhaps a snack. Be ready to play. There is nothing to prepare.

SHOW DESCRIPTIONS

The Process - Michael Joplin

Book It - Joey Rich

UnReal Estate - Susan Deming

The King in Yellow Improvised - Joseph Limbaugh

The King in Yellow is a horror improv based only thematically on the series of short stories by Robert Chambers contained within the book of the same name. The recipe will also include Shelley, Poe, Wells, Dunsany, Clark Ashton Smith, and others. The setting will be the turn of the century, just before a terrible horror is revealed, and the consequences thereof. Most of the laughter will be nervous laughter; anxiety, melancholy, fear, terror, and horror are the colors on the palette we will draw from

Summer Camp - Liz Quinn (ISP Winner)

David and Goliath. Preppies against the Nerds. Champions vs. Underdogs. Camp movies are a mix of genres that culminate in a winner-take-all competition where underdogs fight against all odds to succeed. Summer Camp is where we learn life lessons, experience growing pains, forge new friendships, and feel the blossoming of first love

War Movie - Gale Brennan (Band of Brothers)

In the style of Band Of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan: Boot camp, life back home etc however, no on-stage war. Gender-blind and including specific stories of womens’ roles in WW2

80’s Teen Movie - Emily Kugel (ISP Winner)

Ever been called a brat? Ever just want to pack it up with your friends? Well join our very own Brat Pack as we improvise teenage existentialist comedy in 1980s suburban America. It's gonna be big. It's gonna be huge. It's gonna be John Hughes.
