Service Description
CORE 4: Genre CORE is the fourth class of the CORE progression, where students apply the skills from CORE 1, 2, & 3 to the study of genre. Genre CORE begins with the study of a handful of genres in the main company repertoire. The tropes and motifs of the great writers in Impro’s repertoire teach us how to tell compelling stories of any style. By week 4 of Genre CORE, the class pivots focus to a predetermined genre, and an in-depth study begins culminating in a performance on the Ellen Idelson Stage at Impro Studio. When working on any genre, an improviser must become well-versed in not just the source material, but contemporary history, stylistic tropes, language and conventions of the genre, and more. Students should expect outside homework, including viewing and reading. Instructors try to provide or assign materials that are available for free, but it is possible that some additional costs could incur.
