CORE 2: Character

Prerequisite Required: Core 1

  • 564 US dollars
  • Impro Theatre

Service Description

Sep 3rd - Nov 19th Sundays, 11am-2pm 12 weeks CORE 2: Character CORE is the second workshop in the four-part CORE Program. Originally titled “Character & Relationship CORE,” Character CORE introduces a fundamental Impro concept: we believe that good stories arise out of strong characters, with clear objectives, in relationship to other characters. In addition to deepening the work from Physical CORE, this workshop explores creating varied but grounded characters with vulnerability, strong wants, and specific points of view. It also explores relationships through status, archetype, and being emotionally affected by others. In narrative improvisation, it can be easy to fall into the trap of following plot, but Impro teaches students that if you dive deeper into character and relationship, plot will simply happen. After completing Character CORE, the instructor will meet with each student to discuss his or her classwork at which point the instructor will provide feedback on the student’s progress. Unless held back by absences (more than three is grounds to repeat any given CORE class) or behavioral issues disruptive to ensemble building, students will be invited to participate in the next available CORE class in sequence.
